On Pickup of Trailer
IMPORTANT
-
Each trailer is equipped with a digital keybox that contains the key that is used to unlock the trailer.
-
To access trailer, enter the lock code into the digital keybox (the keybox is usually encased in a plastic enclosure which is fastened on the front or side cage of the trailer). Once you have entered the digital lock, hit the Unlock button.
-
The lock code is only sent/shown to you after you have completed the pickup form. (The link to the pickup form is sent to you one hour prior to your scheduled pickup.)
-
Inside the keybox are your keys to:
a. unlock the trailer’s coupling lock that attaches to vehicle.
b. unlock the padlock on toolbox (if padlock is supplied)
c. unlock the padlock of the spare type (if equipped)
d. undo the locking lug nut (if the trailer’s tyres are equipped with one)
-
Inside the toolbox, you will find accessories that maybe useful during the hire:
a. Spare D-shackle – helpful in case the supplied D-shackle on the chains has gone missing.
b. Extender – used if the trailer’s chain link is not long enough to reach the car’s D-shackle holes.
c. Cutter – used to widen the pins of the trailer’s plug to improve contact with the car’s plug (useful when the lights are not working).
HOW TO HITCH THE TRAILER
1. Unlock the coupling lock using the key that was taken from the keybox. (Put the coupling lock & accessories back into the toolbox during transit and place the coupling key into the keybox).
2. Reverse the vehicle slowly up to the trailer, and position the tow ball directly under the trailer coupling.
3. Connect trailer to the towing vehicle. Use this 5-point quick check:
>> 3.1 If the trailer is supplied with a jockey wheel, wind jockey wheel all the way down until the coupling is completely seated onto the towball. If you are not confident the coupling has seated correctly, push down on the trailer, or stand on the drawbar to provide downward pressure on the coupling. Stow the jockey wheel into horizontal position, with the handle facing upwards.
>> 3.2 Lower the handle until the safety latch is in its correct position, then fit the supplied pin or carabiner to the latch to secure the handle in place.
>> 3.3 If trailer is equipped with mechanical break, release the hand break. Lift the reverse lockout latch to allow the trailer breaks to operate when breaking during transit. Return to closed position for reversing.
>> 3.4 Attach the chains by using the supplied D-shackles. If there are two chains, cross them so that they form a cradle effect to allow catching the trailer in case it detaches from the towball during transit. If the chains hang too low, you can shorten either by either twisting the chains before attaching them with shackles or placing the shackles through another link on the chain.
>> 3.5 Attach the wiring of the lights onto the towing car. Check that all the lights are working. In case the lights are not working, use the cutter that is in the toolbox to open up the pins a little bit to allow contact onto the pin plug of your car.
4. Check that everything is connected correctly for transit. Do a full walkaround the trailer to check everything is normal. Inspect the tyres. Check for any damage or missing items.
5. Take clear photos of the drawbar/hitch (with the towing vehicle visible, left, right and rear sides). Photos must clearly show the entire trailer. This is important for all insurance purposes as damages may have occurred on previous hires. You may be liable if you fail to recognise any damage or fail to report your own damage during your hire.
You are now good to go. Drive safely as per road rules and conditions.
